Workout Motivation: How to get it back
Hey guys! Lately, I find myself exhausted by the end of the day and dreading going to the gym after work. Thus my motivation for working out has become a huge challenge. Despite my best efforts to try new classes at the gym, I find myself counting down the minutes until I can leave, anyone else relate? So I started thinking about what would help me gain back my motivation. Here are some tips I came up with:
- Find what works for you
After the end of the workday I just want to go home. I find doing a workout DVD is much easier to talk myself into. Who doesn’t have 45 minutes to spare for PIYO, 20 minutes to spare for a 30-day shred Jillian Michaels DVD or 30 mins for a Courtney Bentley Fitness Workout? Does working out outdoors excite you more? Is a DVD more doable? Find what works best for you and get that motivation back.
- Switch up your routine
When I was in New York I started taking new classes, such as: TRX and PIYO, and I fell in love. It was so different from my normal routine and any other workout. It helped me push myself, break through my plateau and become stronger. Most importantly it made me excited about working out again. Finding PIYO in North Carolina has been a challenge so I ordered the DVD’s and eventually got a membership for beach body on demand (let me tell you that I sweat more from beach body workouts sometimes than on my 6 mile runs).
- Look forward to the end goal
Working out is hard work, having a healthy lifestyle takes dedication, but it is worth it. Intimidated by the gym? Pop in a workout DVD in your living room. Feeling discouraged? Think about why you started this journey and try not to compare yourself to others in theirs. Hit a plateau? Change up your routine to become excited about working out again. Need to be held accountable? find a friend to workout with.
What are some ways you find motivation to workout? What are your favorite DVD’s or classes to take? Leave it in the comments.
