Self Reflection and Finding Your Purpose
Lately I’ve been thinking, what do I want to be known for? What is my unique story and gifts no one else has that I could use for greater good. It is hard putting your finger on your exact purpose and destiny.
This is a particular week I find myself self-reflecting because on the 21st of July marks 15 years since the passing of one of my parents.
To be honest, as time goes on memories and life lessons taught by my mother become more fleeting and only come to pass in places or circumstances in which I am reminded. It is a very odd feeling and place to be in but had I not lost her so young I would not be who I am today.
My Uncle once asked me, “What made you who you are today, Why did you not veer off course?”. I had never had someone ask me this before, and at the time I could not answer him. I credited other people but he wouldn’t take it for an answer, and he was right. This conversation from two years ago still resonates with me.
Essentially he was asking, what am I going to do with my story that is unique to only me, how do I want to be known? I think it is important for everyone to ask this of themselves, no one has a cookie cutter life.
If you have been through trials and tribulations you are not damaged, you have character and strength built from those experiences.
What we see on social media is a glimpse into the best parts and experiences of people’s lives and what they want to project. It is easy to get swept up, stop self-reflecting, and lose sight of what your true purpose is.
What has made you unique? What are some values you have? What life experiences have shaped who you are? How have you turned tragic and traumatic situations into a trait of bravery and strength? What guides your moral compass? How are you going to leave your mark on this world?
These are questions I try to self-reflect on, what are some ways you self-reflect?
Leave it in the comments.
